The Pepin County Fair is typically held the end of July and will take place at the Arkansaw Fair Grounds in Arkansaw, WI. This fair is open to members of 4-H, FFA, and FACES or any other recognized non profit youth organization under adult leadership and with an educational program approved by the local fair.
The Pepin County Fair does have an Open Class category which is open to all residents of Pepin County and adjoining counties regardless of race, creed or national origin. Open class is designed for adults and graduated club members. Open class is seperate from 4-H.
There is also a School Exhibit entry. These entries are for youth who are not in 4-H and wish to exhibit the work they have completed at school in the Pepin County Fair.
Judging Method Descriptions
DANISH Judging Method:
This is the traditional system whereby all exhibits of the same lot number are present simultaneously to the judge. The judge evaluates each exhibit but is permitted to give a maximum of 25% ribbons to each group (blue, red, white & pink). Exhibitors do not need to be present for this type of judging.
CONFERENCE Judging Method:
All exhibits within a lot number are presented simultaneously, evaluated and awarded ribbons as in Danish judging, BUT when conference judged the exhibitor must be available to present the exhibit. The judge asks questions pertaining to the exhibit and awards ribbons accordingly.
1-2-3-4 Judging Method:
Usually used in Open Class. There is one 1 st , one 2 nd , one 3 rd , one 4 th placing. Judge does not have to give a 1 st . Below 4 th receives no ribbons and no premiums.
