Pepin County 4-H Teen Leaders Send First Packages to their “Adopted” Platoon

The Pepin County’s 4-H Teen Leaders, a leadership youth group of 4-H members 7th grade and older, are sponsoring an “Adopt A Platoon” drive. A Pepin County 4-H alumni is one of thirty paratroopers in the platoon that the 4-H Teen Leaders have chosen to assist.  In the first shipment to Iraq, our group sent boxes containing a variety of items including: beef jerky, magazines and books, pens and pencils, footballs, and snack items. Our boxes also contain a “Thank You for Your Service” note, a listing of donators and even a picture of our 4-H Teen Leaders preparing the boxes.  Our group will be sending 2-3 more shipments of items to the platoon before August.

The Pepin School and Durand-Arkansaw Jr./Sr. High School are participating in this campaign by collecting select product donations from their students and general public to be sent to the soldiers. We hope other community members or businesses would like to participate in our campaign as well. Please consider making a monetary donation to show your support and appreciation. Any amount, even a dollar or two that you can share, will be used to assist in our shipping costs with any surplus applied to the purchase of other useful items to be sent directly to the platoon deployed in Iraq. All donations are tax deductible. Please drop off or mail your donations to the UW-Extension Office, Attn: Pepin County 4-H Teen Leaders, 740 7th Ave. W., PO Box 39, Durand,WI,54736.

We believe our care packages will enhance the morale and well-being of the platoon. These men and women are protecting our freedoms.  Let’s show them our appreciation with our goodwill packages! Thank you in advance for your recognition of the important contributions our troops make to society.
